III. Competition Rules
Team Format:
- Group Stage (Round-robin):
Format: Teams compete in Matches. A Match consists of four Games: Women's Doubles, Men's Doubles, followed by two Mixed Doubles games.
If tied 2-2 after four games, a "DreamBreaker™" tiebreaker is played involving all four players in a rotational system.
During the group stage, all four games are played regardless of the Match outcome.
- Knockout Stage:
During bracket play, if a team wins the first three games consecutively, they may opt out of playing the fourth game.
Seeding order for playoffs:
Matches Won
Point Differential: PD = Points Earned (PE) - Points Against (PA). Example: If Team A's game scores are 21-13, 17-21, 21-19, 23-21, its PD is +8 -4 +2 +2 = +8.
Detailed Match Procedures:
- Coin Toss/Number Guess: At the start of each Match, a coin toss/number guess determines choice order. Winner chooses one from: a) Home/Visitor, b) Serve/Receive first, c) Which end to start Women's Doubles. Loser chooses next, winner gets the last remaining option.
- Home/Visitor System: Home team reacts to Visitor's mixed doubles lineup. Visitor declares mixed doubles lineup first. In DreamBreaker™, Home team must declare full singles lineup first.
- Side/Serve Exchange: Sides are exchanged when a team reaches 11 points in a game. Teams start each new game on the same end they finished the previous game.
- Player Rotation/Serve Rules: Players do not switch sides after winning a point in rally scoring. Player A serves from the right at even scores, Player B from the left at odd scores. Teams may choose to switch sides during the side exchange at 11 points or during a timeout.
- Timeouts: One timeout (max 1 min) per team per game, plus a 1-min side-change timeout when a team reaches 11 points.
- DreamBreaker™ Tiebreaker: Played if Match is tied 2-2 after four games. It is a single game to 21 (win by 2), rally scoring, with all four players rotating in a set order (each player plays 4 rallies in sequence). One timeout per team. Sides exchanged at 11 points.
- Captain: Each team must designate a Captain responsible for communication, coin toss, lineup declaration, and liaising with officials.
- Substitutions/Injury Rules: Substitutions allowed once pre-game without any injury if the new player's DUPR rating doesn't push the team's total over the division limit. Once a substitute enters the match, they must remain in play until the conclusion of that specific match. This substitution rule can be applied again in the next match against a different team. (If a player is substituted mid-event due to injury, the substitute must remain for the rest of the event. A team unable to field all required players forfeits that Match 21-0. An injured player unable to finish a game and no any substitutions, results in a forfeit of that specific game (scores stand, winning team awarded 21+ points to secure win).
- Games forfeited with scores below 7-7 for both sides will not be submitted to DUPR.
